Terms of Service

Histora — last updated 20 August 2026

In short: Histora is a reading app about history. Use it, enjoy it, don’t redistribute the stories, and don’t treat it as a source you would cite without checking. You can delete your account at any moment and everything goes with it.

By creating an account or using Histora, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

What Histora is

Histora provides historical stories and educational content about figures and events from the past, written for general readers. It is published for Android on Google Play by Quinten, reachable at the address at the bottom of this page.

Your account

Histora requires an account, so that your reading progress follows you to a second device. You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself and for what happens under your account. One person, one account; do not share credentials.

Histora is not directed at children under 13, and creating an account requires an e-mail address. If you are under the age at which you can consent to online services in your country, ask a parent or guardian before signing up.

Free and Pro

Histora is available in a Free tier and describes an optional Pro subscription with additional features. The Free tier limits how many new stories you can open per day; stories you have already started, and stories you have finished, stay available.

In this version nothing can actually be purchased. The subscription screen exists and describes what Pro would offer, but no payment is processed and no charge can be made — the screen says so itself. If real purchases are added in a future version, these terms and the pricing shown in the app are updated before that version is published, and any purchase would then be handled by Google Play under Google’s own payment and refund terms.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Content and ownership

The content in Histora — the stories, the text, the illustrations and the design — belongs to Histora and is protected by copyright. You may read it, quote a short passage with attribution, and share a link to the app. You may not redistribute, republish or resell the content, in whole or in part, without written permission.

The historical figures and events themselves are, of course, nobody’s property. What is protected is the particular writing and imagery in this app.

Things you write

Some chapters end with a poll or a choice point, and you can send us feedback from inside the app. Poll votes and choices are stored so the app can show how other readers answered, always as totals and never attributed to you by name. Feedback you send is read by us and goes nowhere else. None of it is shown to other readers as text: Histora has no chat and publishes nothing a reader writes.

Accuracy

Histora is provided “as is”. We aim for historical accuracy, use ordinary care in writing and checking the stories, and correct mistakes when they are pointed out — but we cannot guarantee the content is error-free or complete, and it is not a substitute for primary sources or academic work. Do not rely on it for anything that matters without checking it elsewhere.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Availability

Story text and images are bundled inside the app and work without a connection. The account, the progress synchronisation and the quizzes and polls need our servers, and those can be unavailable, interrupted or discontinued. We do not promise uninterrupted service.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. It is immediate and permanent: your account, your reading progress, your unlocked characters, your poll and choice answers and any feedback you sent are removed, and the same data is cleared from your device. There is no backup to restore from.

We may suspend or end access to an account that breaks these terms, or where required by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will say why.

Privacy

What Histora stores, where it goes and what you can do about it is set out separately in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms. The updated version is published on this page with a new date at the top, and continued use of the app after that date means you accept it. If a change materially affects your rights, it is also shown in the app.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country.
